Looking for a corporate retreat in NY but not sure where to begin? New York is such a great state with so much to do that sometimes making a choice seems impossible. That’s why we’re here to narrow it down. Keep reading to learn about some great activities and locations where you can focus on team building in NY.
1. Hiking Expedition
One of the most common corporate retreat ideas in NY is a hiking trip. New York is incredibly beautiful and has innumerable hiking paths and trails. From the Adirondacks to the Catskills, to the Appalachian trail, New York is home to some of the most famous outdoor regions in the country. And not only are there a lot of places to go hiking in New York, but a lot of them are also beginner friendly. These factors combined make a hiking trip an ideal corporate retreat in NY.
So, what are some great hiking locations that work well for a corporate retreat in NY? Well, that partially depends on where you are coming from, how far you are willing to travel, and how adventurous your team is. If you are coming from New York City, there are a number of great state parks nearby, all of which offer some excellent hiking trails that are accessible to everyone. This includes Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park which are roughly an hour from Manhattan. If you decide to go this route, make sure to book an appointment with Artemis Hill, as we can provide you with a great home base for when you aren’t out hiking. We even have hiking trails of our own!
Additionally, if you’re in Upstate New York or if you don’t mind traveling, then a trip to Lake Placid and a hike in the Adirondacks is also a great way to go. You could even scale one of the high peaks! Two great beginner recommendations are Porter Mountain and Cascade Mountain, while Whiteface, Algonquin, and Marcy are the way to go if you really want a challenge.
2. Wellness Classes
An important part of any company culture is letting your team know that you care about them and their overall physical and mental wellbeing. A great way to demonstrate and contribute to this notion is by taking wellness classes with your team. Whether you make wellness the focus of your entire corporate retreat in NY or just make it one of several team-building activities, it is something your team is sure to enjoy and appreciate.
Some examples of wellness classes that work well for groups include meditation, yoga, Zumba, and even dance. Of course, when planning any type of wellness event, you want to be considerate of the capabilities of your group, but you can find classes for beginners almost everywhere. Here at Artemis Hill, we encourage people of all ages, regardless of their skill level, to come and participate in our guided meditation sessions. We even have horse meditation sessions which are unforgettable if you have a team of animal lovers.
3. Wine Tours
Visiting wineries is an amazing way to spend a corporate retreat in NY, assuming your team is up for it. There are hundreds of wineries spread all over New York State which offer a wide variety of wines for all different tastes. Most New York wineries offer tasting menus and many even include restaurants so you and your team can enjoy a nice meal with some of the best wine our country has to offer. A trip like this is a great bonding experience, as well as a great way to blow off some steam.
If you are looking for specific recommendations, it again depends on where you are located and how far you want to travel. Once again, we’ll shamelessly plug Artemis Hill as a great location to make your home base if you’re in New York City as we are surrounded by a number of great wineries. If you come and stay with us, then make sure to check out Océane Vineyards and Winery, Applewood Winery, and Clearview Vineyard, all of which are equally gorgeous and feature a number of excellent wines.
Alternatively, if you would like to travel further upstate or if you live in upstate New York, then you should definitely explore the Finger Lakes region. There are way too many wineries around the Finger Lakes for us to definitively narrow down where you should go, but some of our favorites include Thirsty Owl Wine Company, Fox Run Vineyards, and Ventosa Vineyards. All of these are beautiful spots with amazing wines and food. If you are looking for a good home base to explore the region, we would recommend Ithaca, NY which has lots of great lodging and many sights to see.
4. Movie Screening
Another great activity to incorporate into your corporate retreat in NY (or anywhere, really) is a movie screening. Whether you decide to go out to a movie theater or invite everyone to a particular location, movies are a great way to destress and have fun. Often, a movie is a great way to spark conversation while also getting to relax.
It would be impossible for us to choose something for you with this one, but we would recommend letting your team have some say. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to rent out a movie theater to screen something that has just made it to theaters! Regardless of what film you ultimately go with or where the event is held, movies screenings are a fun, casual event that are easy to organize and are generally appreciated.
